STS-4014: Algorithms & Society
Description: This course focuses on social perspectives of algorithms and implications to factors such as class, gender, race, ethnicity, geography, and disability status. Students will be guided to think critically about the impacts of computing in society, as well as the role of social values in their design. Topics will focus on computing technologies involved in critical contemporary and global concerns including machine learning, privacy, and the infrastructure that describes the social and technical context for algorithms.
