Description: Provides students with an overview of phonetics and phonology in Spanish and familiarizes students with the articulatory descriptions of vowels and consonants of Spanish. Compares and contrasts the sound systems of Spanish and English. Analyzes the sound system using theories and methods in linguistics. Explores the social meaning of the phonetic variation that exists throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Taught in Spanish.
