MATH-5554: Approximation Theory
Description: Algorithms for calculating the best approximations in the uniform norm and in inner-product spaces. Weierstrass and Jackson theorems. Lagrange and Hermite interpolation. Function approximation by piecewise and rational polynomial approximation. Approximation of linear functionals including numerical differentiation and numerical integration rules. Applications include numerical methods for approximating solutions to differential equations and linear systems theory. Pre: Graduate standing.
