LAHS-2224: Topics in Latinx Culture

Description: Transdisciplinary examination of fundamental concepts related to Latinx/Hispanic culture—among these, cultural hybridity, multilingualism, civil rights, activism, social justice, and marginalization—in variable cultural, historical, political, and geographical contexts. Study of one or more of the following: narrative, essay, drama, poetry, popular media and works of art. Emphasis on the interpretation and analysis of texts and other creative artifacts to understand Latinx culture’s intersections with race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, religion, indigeneity, nationality, disability, etc., and the sociopolitical issues affecting those who identify as Latinx or Hispanic in the United States. Course may be repeated one time with different content for a maximum of 6 credits.
