HIST-1354: Conflict and Security in Modern East Asia
Description: Survey of the 20th century history of five states in northeast Asia, People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Japan, North and South Korea, and the connections between them. Causes and consequences of war, colonization and nationalist movements and their implications for contemporary regional and global relations. Emphasis on cultural concepts, political ideologies, social relations and historical conflicts as background to current security concerns.
